A. Antoine Verret

This caladium bud is set against a painting done by my grandfather, A. Antoine Verret, fifty years ago. My grandfather attended the Chicago School of Art and made his living as a painter, painting scenes of the swamps and bayous of Louisiana. He died at an early age. I inherited a couple of his paintings. Some family members are trying to buy back his paintings and a cousin is preparing a catalog of them. This one was in a house whose roof was torn off during hurricane Betsy back in 1965 and then hauled around the country a bit. It needs restoring, but still retains the lovely green-blues and pinks my grandfather used during the early 50's.
I started out with this flower, trying to get the same effect that Larry Ahern got with that wonderful iris bud in his PAD on May 26.

I think I looked #6 where the flower blended in with the painting more. The color and line is nice on this one also.

A wonderful tribute to your grandfather. You seem to have inherited his artistic talent, also.

Ironically I like this one better for the opposite reason. I like the way the caladium blends into the painting almost looking like it is a part of it!
Whatever, it is a lovely painting and very creative of you to bring new beauty to it!

Hi Gayle ... what a lovely story about your Grandfather and his work. What a shame he passed early ... he was certainly very talented.
In terms of your image, I like 'caladium with natural light' best. It details the flower. I think Bruce's comment about the flowerr getting lost in the background is true ... and that doesn't seem to happen with the other image. It's lovely that the colours of the flower and painting complement each other, without the flower getting lost in the background.
Very nice concept

Very interestingly done. The colours blend well together. If the bud is a tad bigger...

Thanks, Bruce. I had to correct the URL. Thanks for pointing it out.

I went to look at your gallery, but... have you already deleted it?

The painting is lovely, but the bud kind of gets lost in front of it.

Fascinating story! I like the way you combined the bud with the painting--you're honoring your grandfather and adding your vision to his!
