Thanks for taking the time to give my photo the once over, and for your compliment. Got to admit I love the light on this. Looks so much more interesting than it did in the field. Thanks again! ~ Marko

Cracking photo by the way!

Focus is fine on this one. I personally don't get the comment about sharpness, below. But, perhaps he was suggesting a narrower aperture (ie. greater depth of field)? Alternatively, you can't beat using a good tripod for a really sharp image.

Thanks for the kind words ac.
I took many many photos yesterday at the park. The few shown in the Stanley Park 'gallery' are the only ones with any part of the photo approaching what I'd call 'sharp'.
I've got problems with sharpness in general. By the way, I did use USM on this. I'm still not convinced I don't have "the" problem (bf) but some tests, including Spannie's chart from the dpreview.com D70 forum -http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=1034 , seem to show everything's fine. However, other tests, like dvd cases lined up in a staggered fashion seem to show that the back of the case behind the one I focussed on is sharpest. Then there's me of course ... My 24-85 F/3.5-4.5 G lens may not be the best around but I'm sure it's capable of producing better pics than the majority I've taken so far. So, what am I doing wrong? Sometimes I've locked focus (using AF-S) on areas filling the single centre focus spot, and used a high shutter speed (< 1/1000 sec) and still I can't get sharp results. I dabble with USM on every photo I consider a possibility, and, in general, I still end up with unsharp results.

I have a 70-200 F/2.8 VR on order which, from everything I've seen is a dream of a lens. If I can't get better clarity with that then I'll have to consider where I go next - Nikon Service or ... photo school ;)

I was pleased with the sharpness of the photo of my friend John -http://www.pbase.com/image/28787204. That shows me my D70 body & lens is capable of some sharp stuff, so it's back to me then?

Thanks so much for your interest :)

I like a lot the light on this one Marko. A little bit sharper and it'd be perfect.
