Ghost Ranch Lodge

801 W. Miracle Mile

Built by Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Pack in 1941 and designed by Josias Joesler, the ranch was named after Mr. Pack's cattle ranch near Taos.
The classic cow-skull logo, visible in the triangle, was designed by his friend Georgia O'Keeffe.
This lodge is considered by many people to be the best example of the motor courts of yesteryear.

UPDATE: The Ghost Ranch Lodge closed in 2005 after serving the motoring public for 60 years. It is currently being converted into affordable housing for the elderly.

Not many know that this sign was designed by Georgia O'Keefe.

We didn't discover this treasure until the late '90s and were so sorry to see it close. Drove by last week and saw the gutted bldgs. and wondered what happened to the cactus garden. Love the old eucalyptus trees. This was our favorite motel ever--didn't feel like a motel.

Thanks for sharing your memories with us all, Kent.
You'd be shocked to see it today as they're gradually gutting out all the buildings. I think they're still planning on making it senior apartments but maybe someone out there knows more about its future.

This was such a wonderful motel. We enjoyed it a number of times, including having a Christmas dinner in their restaurant in 1970 and staying with a dear friend there in the mid 1990s. The cactus gardens were spectacular, and it was so pleasant to walk through the courtyard and see all the cactus plants -- they were all labeled in the early days, which made it even more fun. It was one of the few motels that featured garages for your car! I remember it fondly.
