04-23-04 spider lily Hymenocallis caroliniana.jpg

Spider Lily

Family - Amaryllis (Amaryllidacacae
Blooms - March to May
Hatitat - Wet areas all over the state.

The spider-lily is one of our largest, most spectacular wildflowers. Hymenocallis is Greek for beautiful membrane. The center of the fragrant flower is membranous, and resembles a morning-glory. Although a large group of them is pretty, the spider-lily's delicate beauty is best appreciated when looking at an individual plant.
