This little hole-in-the wall is a real find -- the "gee cheung fun" here is made fresh all day

Our friend Jose gave us a great heads-up on this tiny shop inside a shopping mall ... it specializes in this particular type of dim sum made fresh by the man in the window. We didn't have a specific address for this place, so we had to rely on clues and ask directions from locals. It was a lot of fun, like being on an treasure hunt. When we finally found the place, we rewarded ourselves with a big, warm plate of ngow cheung (beef cheung). The meat was wonderfully sweet and beefy without the overwhelming taste of coriander that most ngow cheungs have.

Later, we had a pleasant chat with a fellow Toisanese who works there, Mr. Chin. He gladly shared some of his culinary secrets with us -- he could tell that we were just curious and not planning on opening our own restaurant!

Sam's Congee Delight ("Wong Som Gay" in Chinese), Market Village Mall (next to Pacific Mall), Unit B57, Markham, Ontario (905) 979-1079 Open 10-8 daily

Tip: Located across from the LCBO Liquor Store and HSBC Bank inside Market Village Mall
