April 16 2004:
Cha Cha Slide

DJ Casper

I had every intention of creating my themed photo today with a song or album that had some meaning to me, perhaps a Paul Simon or Joni Mitchell number, or one of hundreds of great songs I have enjoyed over the years. Having no specific ideas, I went up to London, hoping that some photo might bring a song to mind. Of course, this would be a song that I knew, and probably loved as well.

But this was not to be.

Arriving in Trafalgar Square, I heard some dance music going on, and it was pretty easy to track these lively performers down, who were in fact being filmed by the BBC. It turns out that I was witnessing DJ Casper and his dancing troupe performing the “Cha Cha Slide”, currently no.5 in the UK singles charts, and this video shoot is due to be broadcast on next week’s
Top of the Pops. This programme has now been going for 40 years and I even remember the very first episode, the opening act being the Rolling Stones!

Today’s photo features one of his dancers, and you can see another photo of her here, and one of DJ Casper himself on his mobile phone, in between signing autographs for his adoring teen and sub-teen fans!

Love the feet framing the young lady - all very good. I agree, there's a lot of life here.

Don't know the Cha Cha Slide or DJ Casper (I must be getting old!)... but excellent photo!!
Interesting that you would go to London and perhaps think of Paul Simon or Joni Mitchell. Years ago when I went to London everything I encountered made me break out in Beatles songs. How many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall... Get your tan from standing in the English rain... I really must have annoyed my travel companion LOL

Great one!! I love the Cha Cha Slide -- my girlfriends and I have a blast dancing to it! Played it at my wedding last summer and we all had a ball Cha Cha Sliding our heads off ;) Beautiful shot, I like the motion you caught her in..
