The higher we climbed, the deeper the snow - and the less traveled the path. Unfortunately we had to turn around long before we reached Bierstadt Lake because the snow was just too deep without proper equipment. When my husband stepped slightly off the "compressed" trail and sunk into snow up to his hips, we decided it was time to turn around!
