April 3rd - Self

This was taken in a mirror with natural light coming from an open window. I made adjustments to the levels in PS. If any one wants to see the before/after, let me know and I'll post. It's not as sharp as I would like, but that may be a matter of the iris being open too much to get the available light.

I shot a couple of self shots leading up to this one (trying to get the correct settings and angle) and realized that I looked like I had a frown! So I consciously smiled a bit in an attempt to come across more pleasant. It's funny, 'cause I think of myself as being a pleasant person with a good sense of humor. :-)

I have tried to get a photo of myself without a frown or a scrunched up mouth and it was really hard. I had no idea I was so serious.

On further contemplation, evil was too strong a word. Maybe sinister is what I meant.

Todd,

Cathi sent me a picture of Jack and Sophie and I just kept clicking on "next" through the flowers and commercial filming till I came to this. I do not claim to know diddly about
photography or what makes some good and some not so good, but this one of you absolutely stopped me in my tracks! There is so much there to look at, from the shadows and highlights on your shirt, to the fingers in the foreground and the dark vs. light of the whole composition--not to mention the enigmatic look on your face. Intense, pleasant, hypnotic, maybe just a trace of evil contemplated??? Richard Avedon, Annie Liebowitz, eat your hearts out.

I agree. When I posted this, I zoned and forgot that I had used such a slow shutter speed. :-( I usually don't like going slower than 1/60, but the alternative was to bring in a light. I suppose I could have changed up to a higher ASA/speed, but that would have increased the noise.

All in all, it's not bad for hand held at 1/30th. I've only had the camera a few weeks and I'm still learning what it will do and what I can do with it.

Thanks for your comment!

Nice shot, i love available light pics. I think it was the slow shutter speed of 1/30 of a second, that kinda borders on slow for handheld.
