kiwi in tree

Kiwi was a fun bird. She lived alone in a medium sized cage that had it's door open most of the time. She thrived on attention, and would run over to greet you every time you passed her cage. She had learned ways of getting your attention, and she was honed this skill well, having found at least a dozen ways to make alarming and obnoxious noises that you simply could not ignore. Using these techniques, she'd become a great alarm clock, rising at six a.m. and waking the house until somebody got up to remove her sleep-cover.

Here, she was perched in a palm tree, posing proudly for this picture. (Actually, she was more interested in that big lens she'd never seen before.)

Kiwi passed away on February 11th, 2005. She lived almost ten full years. She is sorely missed, to this day. We think about her often, and miss her company and adorable personality.

Kiwi was a Lovebird. Unfortunately ... lived her life without a mate. Curiously, when I bought her, she was supposed to be a male. But at about 18 months, she began to lay eggs periodically. The cutest eggs you've ever seen, perfectly shaped, but only about a half-inch in size.

Kiwi lived to 10 years old before she passed on ... a surprisingly long time for these birds, that usually live for about 7.

She is still missed. She had an amazing personality, and was quite smart for such a tiny animal.

We finally decided to get a new pet last year (Kiwi died four years ago, this coming February. Our new kitty has filled our home with the love ofg a pet, but we DO still think about Kiwi, very fondly. She gave us some very fond memories.
