Egg Patterns

by Vikas

Been wanting to shoot white on white for a while but never really got down to it so when this challenge came along and the new tray of eggs had been delivered at home, couldn't resist. :-) Over exposed the shot to bring out the whiteness of the eggs/background.

I really like this one but somehow I miss a colourful or somehow different spot. I'd love to see a little chicken (the yellow ones) or a brown egg at the end of the line.... but that would change the message...

In any way: great!

Dear Phil, thanks for your comments but nope, no PS work in this shot (it didn't require any actually) except for resizing and a bit of USM, thats it. The rest was a play of light on this composition and had postioned the light just so to achieve this particular effect that I was after.... Vikas.

A beautiful shot, well composed.
It might just be me, but when I look closely at the front egg, the transition between texture and nothing seems a little sudden, as if you have used PS there. It does require a *very* close look though, so it's being very picky on my part... Phil

Vikas, another classic from you! I like the comp and the shadows and, I've come to apprecaiate how VERY similar our photographic styles are now :-) We should open a gallery together some day... Vickas - Marcus Gallery lol. Markjay

Simple and beautiful. Of course, the professional use of lighting helps too :-)

Thanks Mark, the set up is essentially quite simple, to the right of the eggs is a strobe with an umbrella, positioned just so that I get shadows not too long and the umbrella closer to the light source to give harder light and directed more towards the first egg to have it fade into the b/g. I used the modelling light in the strobe to determine the exact distance from the subject and adjusted the strobe height accordingly. That is pretty much it.... tried to use a reflector on the right but that was too much light and was making the shot flat. This unidirectional source of light helped in giving the shot depth. I overexposed by keeping an aperture of around f/13 I think (?); shutter speed 1/250s; since I wanted the fading out effect with the eggs and also to make the white of the background and the eggs really stand out. Hope this helps, if you need to ask anything else, please feel free to. Enjoy..... Vikas.

Vikas, I love your lighting. It is very similar to the pepper in the last challenge which I also thought was fabulous. Can you let me know what set up you use? Mark

I love how they gain contrast as they get further away. It's the opposite of what one would expect. Excellent capture as usual for you! ~ Lonnit

Vikas,
Just gorgeous! I like the composition as is. The eggs lead the eye back on a diagonal and the center of the last egg falls just about at the 1/3 (or 2/3) mark both horizontally and vertically. Excellent. Roberta

Excellent image... love how the eggs blend seemlessly into the background. Maybe it would be cool if they all did this, but I also love how they slowly become more visible. Also it might work to crop off a bit of the right space, even if you have to cut off the shadow. Beatiful work!
