Eared Grebe

Britton Ford, TN

The Eared Grebe in this and next couple of shots was 1st found by Jeff Wilson at Britton Ford. These Grebes are quite rare in this part of the state.

The fluffed-up look and very peaked head are typical of Eared Grebe. Notice the auriculars are dark, with a white wedge extending up behind them. Eared Grebes are much less bulky than Horned Grebes, with thinner necks and a thin, upturned bill.
