The hoboing phrase "riding the rods" derives from the way this car is constructed: daring hobos used to drape themselves---sometimes with a board---over the steel tensioning rods that run beneath the car's body.

You're right, our two photos do go well together. Funny to get two railroad images that close together. Interesting image. Mine was just a quick grab of a shot. I did not realize others would like it as much as they did. I'll go shoot it again for another day and this time use a tripod.
The stories that can tell. I would also like to see it closer as well. Good photograph to motivate a viewer to just jump into the photograph and start exploring.
