Nothing new here indeed for anyone familiar with Manfrotto/Bogen products. Their quick release plates can have the locking pin inserted that fits into the 828's corresponding socket - and as it happens it does also suit the Q-top's design.... see the next image!

That little pin, as can be seen, may be placed in any of three optional locations. I chose the one that would offer the largest contact area with the 828 when used without the pano head and bracket combination and would, at the same time, also enable me to attach my little Canon S100/IXUS that I still have and use quite frequently.

With the 828 on the tripod this places the quick-release lever in reach of my left hand so that I can grab the camera securely at its grip with my right hand when attaching or releasing it.
