"Self-Portrait" ;)

I'm not particularly good with this drum, but it's something to play with now and then. This was not an easy photo and I'm not wholly satisfied. But after about thirty attempts with the ten second timer and trying to get the focus and light right, it's close enough.

Excellent! Pat has been on at me for months and months for a pair of congas. I keep saying no!
Hope you enjoy them!

I think it's excellent!

I like it, Mark. The motion of yours hands "banging" (?) on the drums is a nice touch!

Great job in capturing the motion :)

I love the motion in this one.

BABALOOOOOOOOO!
Cool movement, nice "self portrait" (musta made Jeanne laff!)

Thank you all. I am beginning to like this better. It is pretty much what I had in mind. I just couldn't see that last night after so many "not right" shots.

Nice action shot Mark!!

Wow... Mark! This is a great shot! I love it. The movement in your hands against the sharp focus of the drum and the hint of your legs behind the drum all combine to give a great sense of the instrument. And the lighting great! My son, Josh, was really liked it too... he's my up and coming drummer.

This is awesome!! Love the clarity of the drum contrasting with the motion blur of your hands. You should be proud of this!
p.s. We should get a "self portrait band" together - see my 1/7/04 shot : )

Brillo shot Mark, I can feel the energy transmitting from this one. Well worth the effort of thirty shots to achieve this!

Cool!

I really love this shot! Is your head turned to the side? All of your pictures are great, and I also love a lot of the Christmas pictures you posted. Take care, Mo

Settle...yes, I count very patiently 9..8..7..as I calmly walk around the tiny space I'm working in and take my place. At first I was playing the drum too fast. I finally settled into a slower rhythm which gave more definition to the hands at one point.
Guest 12-Feb-2004 04:31
Neat motion!! And I understand about the ten second timer, after so many running back and forths you just begin to settle :P
Guest 12-Feb-2004 04:28
Way COOL!!! You've done a great job Mark!

I think this is a great action shot. The contrast between the focused drum and the flying hands is wonderful. My husband has all sorts of drums, I can't believe I haven't even thought of doing a motion shot like this until now. Hope I can live up to your example when I try ... and thanks for the inspiration. :)
