Feb 1: Juggling

Today, I've been juggling jpg files. The biggest problem with digital photography is looking after them all. You have to get your 'digital workflow' right or risk losing everything. I upload from CF cards to my Mac iBook, where I do my editing in Photoshop Elements. Every month or so I upload everything from the Mac to the PC hard drive. There's a bit missing tho. I have no archival storage worked out. I've got gigs of keepers from last year, probably about 6 CDRs worth. And now I'm thinking of working in RAW mode. Time to buy a DVD-R drive?

DVD-R is the way to go for sure. I have two separate HDs that I keep on two different machines. They act as back ups to each other and have the same files on both. I recently backed my 2003 photos to DVD, 7@4.7GB!!!

Nice shot! I like the motion against the clean, crisp feel of the shot.

Although my 'work' is actually just for fun and of no true import in this world other than to myself I nearly lost all of it a couple of days ago when I inadvertantly deleted something needed to make my computer 'go'. Thankfully hubby was able to fix things without deleting the data on the computer. I spent the next day and a half backing up image files. I have to re-edit all the time because I 'forgot' to save a tiff or psd file of the image. It's quite frustrating. I can only imagine how more so it would be if you were actually getting paid for this stuff and the workflow made a difference in how much you got done or not done.

Great motion and simplicity. Reminds me of the design they have on Crash Test Dummy cars. They didn't come from Crowthorne, did they?!
btw, have you seen Simon's recent picture of his new 125gb drive:-)

Gives me an idea for a PotD 'Theme'. I can't believe you don't have a backup regime for your pics... Oh yes, nice motion capture!

45 gigs? Do you shoot RAW or JPG?

Nice shot! Great sense of motion among nice simplistic colors and composition. And I hear you about the archival workflow -- 45 gigs ALONE for my photos out of 80 gigs on my computer, and more on discs. I need more space! -- angela :)
