Glory Days
1.28.04

I've always been facinated with handguns.
I don't consider myself to be a nut case,
but if you've ever fired one, you know what I am talking about.

There's just something about handguns that is uniquely American.
I'm not talking about gang-bangers, drug dealers, and criminals,
but law abiding citizens that enjoy sending large amounts of lead downrange,
in a safe and controlled manner.

I began shooting practical pistol matches in the early 90's.
In addition to having a great time on the range with my fellow shooters,
I spent a lot of my time helping to run our local club, including running our website,
computing monthly scores, and sending out a monthly newsletter.

In the early part of those years, I also became a Certified Range Officer,
and started designing my own courses of fire for competitors to test their skills at.

I worked hard in 1996 and finished Best of Class at my local club.
This was my first trophy ever, for recognition of that year.

I met a lot of great shooters, both male and female, some of whom I consider to be my
best friends.

However, with all things in life, it is easy to become burned out. I might have been too
excited, too willing to take on more responsibilities. It was just a matter of time.

I haven't been to an organized match since September of 2001,
in which I shot one of the best matches of my life.

I've been meaning to return, but priorities in life change, and so it's just
one of those things that have been put on the back burner.

John, I would have to say that this is one of my favorites in your galleries. (I have some similar interests!)
The lighting, the position, the quality of the handgun you used! After perusing your galleries, I thought you were maybe LEO, given your good tastes in hobbies, handguns and top quality knives! Benchmade is here in Oregon, and almost all of the officers here carry them, including me.
Anyway, great pictures!

Very nice job on the lighting and an excellent story to add.

Well done! In fact, you should frame this and hang it up - as a memento of your skill and accomplishments - next to the plaque itself!

Very fine still life

Ok, I'm gonna give away a trade secret here...
My lighting set up consisted on a $4 clip on light with a 100w Halogina bulb.
That's all I can afford to work with now.
I'd love a Digibee setup from Alien Bees...gotta save them pennies!

I agree with the others. Great lighting.

John, I'm enjoying your narrations just as much as the pictures themselves. Gayle

Yes I like the lighting too. How the center of the plaque glows softly
