Sometimes things don't work out quite as they do in the Haynes manual. Now that the VW's steering and handling is more or less as the factory intended, I thought it was time to start making a few little changes. First up, the adjustable rear shocks salvaged from the previous bug. The manual states: "Rear shocks are simply removed by undoing the nut and bolt which secure them top and bottom." So why did I also need to use a drill, a hammer, a cold chisel, a cutting disk, files and a tin of Hammerite? Seems on one side, the clearance hole in the body to allow the removal of the top bolt was in the wrong place. The grin on my face here suggests that I overcame the problem, and as soon as the paint is dry, it's all going back together the way I wanted it!
