By following circuitous routes through the marsh, one can sometimes succeed in traversing from one water body to another. Here, these paddlers are about enter Big Creek, having left Holts Creek and traversed approximately a quarter mile of freshwater tidal marsh. The tall grasses are Wild Rice, a dominant plant of these special wetland communities.
