The air temperature was near minus 20 C, hence the "steam" over the water.
It is supposed to go to something like minus 26 tonight. We will
have a new record, I think. At one time, earlier today when the air was
still, there were spirals of mist rising quite high from the lake.
We saw a bald eagle cruising around trying to get a grebe. The
grebes were all packed into a tight group out of fear. I didn't get a photo
of that, and the eagle flew off to try his luck elsewhere. John Smythe has
seen an eagle hunting grebes and I think that once he saw it catch one. The
grebes always gather into a tightly packed group, seeming to feel that they
are safer that way.
