At Nam Kwok, the restaurant I co-owned near Rockefeller Center 1967

I'm sure I had a lot of customers from the entertainment and publishing industries because of my good location, but the only celebrity I actually recognized was Soupy Sales. He was a big star in the 1960's and often rode in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parades. My children adored him. He gave me an autograph for them on a napkin, but my daughter accidentally disposed of it one day. Well, it WAS a napkin.

Later, I sold the restaurant to a much more socially connected Chinese lady who turned the place into a swanky celebrity hang-out called Pearl's. It was THE Chinese restaurant to be seen at. I don't know if her food was any good, but at least I got one star from Craig Claiborne of the New York Times!
