914 vs. Ford Pinto

You've got to be kidding me?!!! A Ford Pinto?! What is a Ford Pinto doing on a road course? Am I missing something here?
The only logical explanation I can come up with is that the Ford Pinto must have, by mistake, wondered off onto the race track... ;)

Umm, that's Bruce Jennings back there in the #77 911 and I'm sure he's coming on STRONG! The Pinto made a great race car. It was strong, could take a beating, handled pretty well and the 2.3 liter engine helped it scoot along as well. Washington DC region still has cars running in their GT-Pinto class.

The freeking PINTO just wondered onto the track!!!!

He doesn't even have a car number!!!! Are you all blind?! If I was a serious driver and I saw that Pinto coming, I would for sure move the hell out of his way, that thing is out of control!

BTW, I have a nice Pinto for sale, it has no seats or steering wheel. Great for someone that lost his ass and has no direction. ; )

Ya, What you are seeing here is the 914 driving around the outside of the moving chicane, aka Pinto. Also known as grid fillers, lapped traffic, ect...

As much as I know how you would like to forget about the Pinto, they did fairly well on the track. It does indeed look that he's in a better position than the 914, both ahead of the 911.

Well, by the looks of this photo the Pinto outran the 911 who appears to have an issue with oversteeer and it's in a much better position then the 914 coming into the next turn. I still don't like the Pinto with that "solid rear-axle". There's something wrong with that! ; ) Thanks for posting the comments Stu!

Don't laugh to quickly. In 1972, some Pintos were viable race cars, in the right hands. IIRC, Carson Baird won the IMSA small sedan class that year in a Pinto, against the loles of BMW 2002's and some Alfas.
