Believe it or not, they are very uncooperative. If I ask them to pose for a shot, they run away, turn away, or frown. They hate to have their picture taken, probably because I take so many. As a result, I have to catch lots of candids. Kids will present you with numerous portrait opportunities each day... You just have to have a camera ready to capture it, as those moments are fleeting! 99% of my children shots are candids, no cooperation from them...

I'd be happy to give you some pointers, at least from my point of view. Email me at jdanderson_prints@hotmail.com and I'll send you some info. I'll also post some originals with final images side by side so you can see what I do in post processing. I love shooting candid style portraits, but it is difficult to control backgrounds, lighting, etc. I use post processing when necessary to take a cluttered or flawed photo and make it a keeper.

Wonderful shot! I can’t take enough shots of my boys either. Your candid captures are truly inspiring. If you have time one day I would like few tips on your technique, both behind the camera and post-processing.
