the star ferry company has been running ferries between
kowloon and central since 1898. more info at,

at the end of 2001, there were 9 ferries in operation, each
named after a star. the trip to central, on HK island, takes
less than 20 minutes, costs HK$2.20 on the upper deck,
and less on the lower deck. everybody gets off at the,
star ferry, ferry terminal, central, a little to the east of
2IFC, HK's tallest building.
