September 21: Forgotten

Brighton

Brighton isn't all Kiss-Me-Quick Hats and Candy Floss. Its also a large city bringing a city's problems too. This guy must have had a rough time since he was fast asleep on the pavement four feet away from a six-piece jazz band.

Thanks for those kind words Patrick. It was certainly not a difficult shot to take, but I took some inspiration from others, including yourself, in going for monochrome, and also the grain, the latter being a new one for me! The heavy grain has made his face suitably anonymous, but I would have loved to catch him with the pedestrians walking by ignoring him. That would have been really difficult to capture in this particular street environment! I'm really torn between this and the deckchairs for my pic of the day. Stay tuned! Cheers~Ray.

Ray, you have some incredible images for today - but this one really gets my nod. This is an amazing photo from the technical standpoint: the heavy grain, the B&W media, the composition, the softness of the main subject - all of these are remarkable. But it's also an amazing photo from the "moment of life, captured" standpoint. So often, we gravitate toward images that are easy for us to take, that make us feel good, or that portray elegant subjects. This image is certainly none of those things - but it is incredibly powerful, and it communicates volumes. Marvelous job, Ray!
