Far from certain this is a House Finch, but think this is the most likely. Other possibilities include Purple Finch (not really in range according to my Sibley Field Guide) and the Cassins Finch male which is also known to sport some of the same red coloring. The red coloring goes lower on the breast than the House Finches I am used to seeing in South Texas.
