Joe [the Well Traveled Tortoise]
by mlynn

Joe is my oldest sibling, and has lived with our family since the early 1960's.
(We don't know how old Joe is.)
My folks recently moved into a condo, and no longer have a yard for Joe-- so Joe is temporarily living with me until my brother gets a nice yard set up in New Mexico.
From Southern California to Northern California to Virginia to Oregon to Montana (for the last 21 years).
How many desert tortoises can claim that?
When I took this photo (and others), Joe had been digging all day (setting up a new burrow).
So this is a picture of dirty, hard-working Joe.
[You'll notice I never referred to Joe as he or she, because...we're not sure.
We think Joe is a he :-).]

What a great story and amazing relationship. Love this. He has certainly aged gracefully. Ann C

What a neat story - and photo, mlynn. I took some desert tortoise pics this past spring, but yours are so much better. Joe look pretty good - whatever his/her age. Bev
