In 1955, the first Sissi film was released in German cinemas, making the young Romy Schneider an overnight international star. The film was dubbed into German in over 71 countries and became a global success. The world's first permanent exhibition of private collections about Romy and Magda Schneider, located in their hometown of Schönau am Königssee, showcases exhibits from private collections, including items from Romy's childhood at Haus Mariengrund, her school and youth in Schönau, and her time at the Goldenstein girls' boarding school near Salzburg.Magda Schneider first visited the Berchtesgaden region when she was about 14 years old. She was mesmerized, the actress later recalled, "so fascinated by this mountainous area." It was then that the "dream of owning a house in the mountains" was born. With unwavering determination, Magda Schneider saved her early film earnings. In 1935, she was able to fulfill her dream. Her two children, Romy and Wolfi, grew up in her house, "Mariengrund," not far from Lake Königssee in Schönau.
