Sir Edwin Landseer

A Tribute to Sir Edwin Landseer

Have you all ever heard of a painter named Sir Edwin Landseer?
I hadn't either, but apparently my mom has.
She said this photo she took of me in the woods reminded her of the work of this famous artist.
That got her wondering what the scene might look like if Sir Edwin himself had painted it.
So she put the photo into something called ChatGPT and asked it to transform the picture into a painting in his style.
Well, she was pretty impressed with the result.
In fact, she liked it so much that she started feeling a little guilty about it.
She said it didn't seem quite fair that a computer could create something so beautiful in just a few seconds.
Artists spend years developing their skills and perfecting their craft, so she imagined it must be a little frustrating to see a machine produce something like this almost instantly.
I tried to make Mom feel better.
I reminded her that the computer may have done the painting, but she was the one who took the photograph in the first place.
Besides, I think we can all agree that the most important part of the picture was already there.
Me, naturally!

What a charming portrait! The warm autumn light beautifully illuminates your coat, while the woodland shadows add depth and atmosphere. Your joyful expression and lifted paw make the scene feel wonderfully alive. Mom supplied the vision, but you clearly supplied the star quality! V

That is a beautiful original picture. The AI work is very impressive.

Action aplenty, and so painterly.

I must say the image is gorgeous, and it does resemble a Landeer painting. But Yes, I agree that the use of AI for any artistic pursuit is troubling. Interesting text. V

The shades of green and copper are beautiful, as is the lighting; though I suspect that Minty’s liveliness doesn’t come across quite as well as it did in the original photo.

Cela donne bien ( avec ChatGPT ) mais il faut dire que le sujet est superbe.😄

Dear Minty, You're so smart. When your mom takes you for a walk next time, can you ask her to post the original photo for us to see, so that we'll know what's the difference between the two images? Thank you very much. ~VVVVV+++~

Pretty nice, but still would be better painted by a human!

There's certainly something about this image that works. Edwin Landseer gave his name to the black and white markings of the Newfoundland dog. In continental Europe the Landseer has it's own classification away from the mainly black or liver Newfoundlands.

Perhaps Edwin Landseer is best known as the sculptore of the lions at the base of Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square, London.

I think I would have preferred the original, even though the image, as it appears here, is visually very beautiful and painterly.

Even though I don’t use AI, I admit that the result is very successful, Jane ! V.

Wow... C'est beau. Oui, l'IA peut faire de belles choses au détriment des artistes. Mais on peut comme même continuer a soutenir en achetant des œuvres d'art si on a un coup de foudre. V
