Air Nailing

I’ve been a little absent from this challenge because I’ve been working on a basement remodeling project at my daughter’s house and it’s being a little time-consuming.

Here I’m air nailing on a mid-level trim board to cover the ends of corrugated steel sheeting for wainscoting wall covering. The laser level is going full bore providing me a visual guide all the way around the out-of-square walls and unleveled floor. Trying to level the concrete floor for LVP is up next.

This basement had the 12 inch squares which have been a nightmare to remove. I finally came up with a technique where I took gorilla tape and taped my 8 inch mud knife to the end of my 6 foot level and started spraying 91% isopropyl alcohol on top of the tiles and at the tile edge then let it dwell for a while. Did the job but both of my 8 and 12 inch mud knives will never do mud work again.

I tried an official floor scraper but it was terrible so I returned it after an hour of not doing jack.

Ok, question! What LVP did you choose that you’re not sure about. We’re looking at a product from Menards that’s 6 MM thick and 22 mil wear layer. If I remember right it’s about 3 bucks a sq foot. Haven’t bought it yet but that’s likely the one we’ll be using.

And that laser level has been a lifesaver on this never-ending project. I started the gutting process in May and had to completely rebuild 1 wall and add plenty of studs on the other 3. The previous person didn’t quite understand what the phrase “16 inches on center” was. Paul

Paul - this sounds like one heck of a project - esp for a retiree . I am like T. I save my money and hire a contractor who knows what he is doing with modern tools. My tool knowledge is well dated.

I love the laser level...ain't never worked with nothin` like that...I might also caution on the LVP...I had a professional installer do the work, but I purchased all the materials...it is a rental so I did not buy the highest end stuff...but while others and the tenants are fine with it....I am not...and I sort of miss straight old linoleum or the applied squares...(which you can't buy anymore apparently anyway)...but my LVP just seemed softer (?)....I bring this up only because this experience is only a month old for me. Of course, the LVP is kind of guarantee as water proof so there is that...
