Volunteered for the Fall Stanford University Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve Ant Survey.
A long running survey, since 1993, to track the invasive Argentine ant.
A tiny ant which is found near housing tracks and buildings with a local water source.
They are fierce enough to drive out the more native ants.
We use the insect aspirator to suck the ant into a clear vial, the tablet/GPS to guide us to the specific locations for the search and our ant cheat sheet to identify the variety of ants.
We found two sites with the Argentine ants out of the 12 sites searched.
On a warm morning and even hotter day.
