In this baptismal font in the center of the photo, on February 2, 1650, Pier Francesco Orsini received baptism, who became Pope in 1724 with the name of Benedict XIII.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta – built by the Normans in 11th-12th centuries - is one of the most important monuments of Gravina.
Destroyed by fires and earthquakes in the mid-15th century, it was refurbished in Renessaince - Romanesque style.
It houses a splendid reliquary of an arm of the English saint Thomas Becket (1119-1170).
In August 1993 Pope John Paul II granted Gravina Cathedral the status of a minor basilica.
