Cathedral In Gravina In Puglia Entrance Door

Gravina In Puglia, Apulia, Southern Italy

Beautiful entrance door into the Cathedral in Gravina, with bas-relief New Testament scenes in bronze.
One of the most important monuments of Gravina is the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta – built by the Normans in 11th-12th centuries.
Destroyed by fires and earthquakes in the mid-15th century, it was refurbished in Renessaince - Romanesque style.
It houses a splendid reliquary of an arm of the English saint Thomas Becket (1119-1170).
In August 1993 Pope John Paul II granted Gravina Cathedral the status of a minor basilica.
