Before 1500, there was already a wooden bridge at this location. Around 1500 / 1510, the wooden bridge was replaced by a stone version. The foundation and structure largely date from a thorough renovation in 1630 / 1639.
Due to its strategic location, the bridge was designed to be very wide. As a result, the bridge served as a market square for centuries.
