I have a good friend from MN who retired to FL; just North of the Villages. I have visited him there - that area is pretty conservative, and he really doesn't fit in.

Dave - there are lots of places where you don't get grilled before or after you move in.
You just need to decide what you want , and I'd recommend trying it out.
For instance, we rented here for 5 years before I pulled the plug, fully retired, and bought a home.

I drove one (not that one) today, and it was awful. I'd rather drive a golf cart. And I'd rather not live somewhere where I will be compelled to divulge my political views.

Jim have you done a “Lifestyle Visit” at the Village’s? We never have but have several family members who have and now that I think about it Paula has a niece who lives there full time. Like you say typical mode of transportation there is the golf cart. We considered trying the visit but some other family members said they were almost interrogated on their political views while there to be sure they would fit in. Not kidding about that one. Paul

In our retirement community in AZ, we have no parking issues. Neither does Green Valley, more like a retirement town. We do drive our golf carts around the community a lot instead of cars. The cars are used to haul more people and dogs; though dogs prefer the golf cart. I have one friend who has a SMART Car here, but his is the only one I have seen. Likewise I don't see them in Green Valley which also has golf cart lanes on many of the streets for licensed carts.

I am been at the Villages in FL, and I saw a lot of golf carts, and few SMART cars.
