Opened in 1995, the Silk Road Dunhuang Hotel was intentionally built by a Hong Kong/China joint venture in the architectural style of the Han and Tang dynasties, with traditional courtyards, earthen-colored walls, tiled roofs, and long covered corridors. The interior features reproductions of traditional Chinese furniture from the late Tang, Ming, and Qing dynasties, along with artwork inspired by the nearby Mogao Caves. The hotel sits at the foot of the Mingsha (Echoing Sand) Dunes, only a short distance from Crescent Lake.
