I haven't posted any photos for quite a while. I developed Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS), a rare
auto-immune condition that damages the nervous system. I was hospitalized for 42 days, and at my
worst I couldn't walk, my speech was badly slurred, and I was in considerable pain. Fortunately my
condition has improved and I'm back at home. I'm now capable of accompanying my son and dog on a
two kilometre walk using my trekking poles. Most people recover completely (or almost completely)
but it typically takes many months, and sometime years, for the nervous system to repair itself.
But according to the physiotherapists at the out-patient clinic, I am doing well.
This recuperation is giving me lots of time to read. I'm enjoying this biography of Richard Feynman.
