Just Passing Through 6-18-26

A Snapping Turtle

She started out in our paved driveway early in the morning. By early evening, I noticed her again in the middle of our back yard where she spent quite a bit of time. But after I went inside for 10 minutes and came back outside again, she was nowhere to be seen. She must have moved turtle speed going between driveway and backyard but then raced off like a rabbit to totally disappear so fast.

Now, the question is: Why was there a snapping turtle in our yard?
We don't live close to a pond.
