Victoria Street

Edinburgh, Scotland

The bright and vibrant colors found on some of the shops on Victoria Street stand in contrast to the historical look found through out much of "Old Town" Edinburgh. Walking up Victoria Street was one way to get to the Royal Mile on the hill above our hotel which was located in the Grass Market area of "Old Town" Edinburgh. At the top of the Royal Mile stands the massive Edinburgh Castle that over looks the city. The Edinburgh Castle dates back to the 11th Century and is located on Castle Rock, an extinct volcano.

What makes this photograph especially engaging is its balance of old and new. The colorful storefronts invite curiosity and exploration, while the imposing Gothic-style buildings remind viewers of Edinburgh's long and fascinating history. It's an image that celebrates Victoria Street not only as a popular tourist destination but also as a vibrant part of the city's living heritage....Excellent! V

Colorful scene. I wonder why the teal building opted out of the red window frames?

The sun striking those colors really does show how vibrant they are. It’s a fun street to walk along. I remember we found a used bookstore that we enjoyed. V

Interesting display of these vibrant colors in contrast to the traditional color and the diferent shapes of windows in the back. Those people in the shade in the foreground are still seen clearly. Wonderful control of lighting. ~VVVVV+~
