Cactus Flower 6-11-26

Surprise!!!

Echinocereus rigidissimus var. rubrispinus

When I bought this cactus several years ago, I got it for the form; plus, the pretty cream & red flesh and needles. I had no idea that it would ever bloom. This year, it suddenly did! And what a bloom. The wild origin for this cactus species is Mexico. But this one is blooming for me in my US home to help celebrate America's 250th Anniversary

What a great shot. The colors are amazing and the details on the cactus flower center are terrific. The subject shows so well against that background.
