Storms that rolled through the Kansas City area Thursday dumped up to 2 inches of rain in parts of the metro, cutting short the FIFA Fan Festival at the National World War I Museum and Memorial and soaking the crowd at the Netherlands-Tunisia World Cup match at Kansas City Stadium.
Off-and-on showers and a few isolated thunderstorms may hang around the Kansas City area Friday, but the bigger story is a surge of dangerous heat and humidity that could push heat index values above 100 starting this weekend, the National Weather Service said.
