NGC 5128 (Centaurus A) in Centaurus

Tivoli/Namibia

This peculiar galaxy is the result of the collision of a giant elliptical galaxy with a spiral galaxy, characterized by its dust band.
The collision caused the generation of many new stars and a highly active super massive black hole in the center.
Because of that, and being located only about 10-16 millions light-years away, makes it to closest examples of a radio galaxy.
This deep image shows the central region of the galaxy.
