The Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in the background, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
Constructed in the 12th century, the church exemplifies Romanesque architecture typical of medieval southern Italy.
Miglionico is a town and comune in Basilicata, southern Italy.
It is one of I Borghi pił belli d'Italia ("The most beautiful villages of Italy").
The town is located in the middle Bradano valley, and stands on a hill between the Bradano and Basento rivers in the central-eastern part of the province of Matera.
The origins of Miglionico are remote, probably dating back to an Enotrian city, as evidenced by tombs and vases, found in its territory, dating back to the 6th century BC.
