This Cooper’s Hawk fledgling was discovered in Lincoln Park hiding in a large flowerpot after having been harassed by two large crows. A wildlife biologist who lives in the area rescued her and took her to City Wildlife, where she was given a clean bill of health. Seeking to return the fledgling to the nearby hawk’s nest in the park, the biologist arranged with the wildlife shelter to bring the bird back to the park, where he also got the National Park Service to allow him to use one of their cherry pickers that was there for another purpose. He put the bird on a branch high up in the tree near the nest, upon which she promptly flew away to another tree.
I didn’t see all the drama myself, but luckily this picture was taken by the friend of a dog-walker we know.
