Farmhous "Sjallemaheerd"

Provinciale weg (N981), Opende, Westerkwarier, The Netherlands view map

A good example of a historic Dutch cross-house farmhouse (T-plan farmhouse) from 1880. The residential front house is built in a stately, Eclectic style and stands crosswise in front of the large barns behind it.
The entire complex is a protected national monument (Rijksmonument) due to its high cultural-historical and architectural value.
Since 1992, the complex has no longer been used as a farm, after which it acquired a residential function.

Beautiful Pieter. I was born in Lutjegast, a small village in the Westerkwatier. My Grandparents had a farmhouse attached to the main barn like this, but not quite as elaborate. I remember walking from the cow-barn directly into the house.
