Gaudí was commissioned by Manuel Vicens i Montaner to design a second summer residence for the family, on land he inherited from his mother in 1877. Vicens was a stockbroker, although some sources mistakenly cite him as a brick and tile manufacturer. Due to financial difficulties the owner encountered, the project's completion was delayed.
In 1899, Dolors Giralt, Vicens' widow, sold the house to Antoni Jover i Puig; it is currently owned by Fabiola Jover de Herrero. Since then, the Jover family has strived to maintain it in good condition, respecting Gaudí's design and even consulting him on certain details.
