The Sligachan Old Bridge

Isle of Skye, Scotland

The Sligachan Old Bridge was built between 1810 and 1818 by Thomas Telford and offers a view of the Cuillin Mountains in the distance. There is a legend that dipping your face for seven seconds in the River Sligachan grants eternal beauty.

A wonderfully timeless foreground, the bridge's weathered stone arches leading the eye toward the wild beauty of the Cuillin Mountains.
The rushing river, moorland grasses, and broken sunlight give the scene a rugged Highland atmosphere full of movement and history.
It is a beautifully composed view of Isle of Skye, where landscape, architecture, and weather all come together with quiet grandeur.
Excellent composition! V

Absolutely stunning! The Sligachan Old Bridge is pure magic. That classic Thomas Telford stonework framing the dramatic Cuillin Mountains in the background. It all is just breathtaking. Scotland at its most beautiful. V

A magnificent image, Dave. I wonder if that figure in the lower right corners is contemplating dipping?

Stunning composition, Dave! The old bridge makes a very nice anchor point. So much to look at in this beautiful landscape shot. My favorite today. V

The lines of this old bridge and the Cuillin Mountains in the background are in such perfect harmony. The river flows peacefully, running at a surprisingly low level for spring—considering all the melting snow pouring into it. The only person visible in the frame is likely hesitating to put the legend to the test. Perhaps you, too, were waiting for this very moment. ~VVVVV~

Breathtaking view!
The sole individual in the front
right corner anchors the scene
across the bridge wonderfully!

A solid looking bridge and a beautiful view. I would give that legend a try…I’ll bet the water is really cold though! V

Did you dip? A bridge over untroubled waters with a wild-looking backdrop - but I do miss the forest that surely once must have been there.
