Known for their exceptional shapes, trulli are old constructions characterized by circular plans, strictly white dry stone walls, small windows and conical roofs.
The Trulli of Alberobello is the whole urban area of Valle d'Itria near Bari, with the number around 1500 of the houses, and many are still functional and serving as hotels, restaurants and shops.
The Trulli of Alberobello have been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996, thanks to the unique architectural and historical value of trulli houses.
They are considered one of the best examples of vernacular architecture in Europe.
Alberobello is the only inhabited center with an entire district of trulli, and is considered to be the cultural capital of the trulli of the Itria Valley.
It is one of the most beautiful small towns of Italy.
