"Baianas de acarajé" translates to "Bahian women who sell acarajé". These are traditional Afro-Brazilian street vendors, primarily in the northeastern state of Bahia, who wear distinctive white lace clothing and headwraps to sell acarajé—a deep-fried black-eyed pea fritter—alongside other regional delicacies. Many of them are chefs who cook special home cooked meals for tourists and others. This one, named Simonge greeted us and posed for pictures with us.
