According to classical tradition, the Phoenician temple of Moloch/Kronos was located on this island during the Ancient Age.On this small island stands the Castle of San Sebastián, which takes its name from a chapel built in 1457 by the crew of a Venetian ship. They had obtained permission to stop there to seek treatment for the plague that afflicted them. To construct this chapel, the Venetians used the remains of an old lighthouse, which was replaced in 1613 by a watchtower. This watchtower served both as a guide for sailors and for defense. The lighthouse was rebuilt in the 18th century and replaced in 1908 by the current structure. To reinforce the defense of this site, a castle was built in 1706, accessible from the drawbridges that spanned the perimeter ditch. A parapet surrounded the island, except for the southern area, where the cliff was considered sufficient.
