The Emmaus Road Encounter

(The day after His resurrection, Jesus appeared to
Two of His disciples while they walked toward the town
Of Emmaus. The full story is told in the Gospel of
Luke:13-35.)

After the Resurrection Jesus walked with two disciples traveling to Emmaus,
but they did not recognize Him until He had broken bread with them
at the end of the day.
While on the road the disciples shared all that had happened over the previous week.
Jesus said to them, O, slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!
Then beginning with Moses and all the Prophets,
Jesus explained to them what was written
in all the Scriptures about Himself.

As they approached the village where they were headed,
Jesus seemed to be going farther.
But they pleaded with Him, “Stay with us,
for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over.”
So He went in to stay with them.
While Jesus was reclining at the table with them,
He took bread, spoke a blessing and broke it,
and gave it to them. Then their eyes were
opened and they recognized Jesus—and He
disappeared from their sight.

They asked each other, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us as He spoke with us
on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?’ And they got up that very hour and
returned the 7 miles back to Jerusalem.
(Luke 24:13-35)
